CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College women's tennis team played a trio of matches over the weekend, defeating DII Truman State while falling to in-state opponents Northwestern (IA) and Grinnell. The Kohawks opened the weekend with a 5-2 loss to the Red Raiders, picking up a pair of victories in singles from
Maria Bello Escobar and
Cosette Gaines. Coe rounded out Saturday's action with a defeat to Grinnell, falling 6-1 to the Pioneers. Top doubles pairing,
Aisha Gurung / Addison Leasure, were narrowly defeated 7-6 in the initial competition before Bello Escobar grabbed a 7-5, 6-2 at number six to put a point on the board. Coe bounced back in Sunday's match against the Bulldogs with a 5-2 victory. The Kohawks claimed the team point in doubles with wins at number one from Gurung / Leasure and number three from
Alli Hagness / Gaines. Leasure, Gurung, Hagness and Bello Escobar finished off the victory in the singles competition, picking up wins in straight sets.
