ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Coe College women's basketball team kept its season going with a 69-51 opening-round victory over UW-Platteville last evening, earning the right to play host Bethel University in the pod championship game this evening at 7:45 PM at the Robertson Center on the Royal's campus. Tonight's game is a rematch from an early matchup in the 2025-26 season where the teams met on a neutral floor at the Wisconsin Dells with the Royals edging Coe 88-84 in a double overtime thriller. In the game, senior guard Caydee Kirkham totaled 34 points, five assists and four rebounds as she was a staggering 18-of-18 from the line. Audrie Helmrichs added 21 points and seven rebounds but fell into foul trouble, fouling out in just 29 minutes of action. Taryn Kravig and Quinn Grubbs were Coe's other major scoring contributions, totaling 14 points and nine points in a game that featured 30 fouls from Bethel and 29 from Coe. The Kohawks had their seventh worst shooting performance from deep in the game, hitting just 6-of-22 from beyond the arc while also shooting 35.0 percent from the floor, its second worst outing of the year. Bethel was tested in the opening round of the tournament by Millsaps, escaping with an 81-73 victory that was not as comfortable as the scoreline tells. The Royals and Majors saw the lead exchange hands 18 times in the game and the hosts managed to erase a six-point deficit late in the third quarter before finishing off the victory in the fourth. The winner of tonight's game will advance to the Sweet 16, facing the winner of the Washington & Lee and Christopher Newport game taking place in Lexington, Virginia today at 7 PM CST.
