DECORAH, Iowa – The Coe College women's tennis team suffered a narrow 4-3 to top-seeded Luther College on Saturday afternoon in the American Rivers Conference title match. The Kohawks fell behind in the doubles competition, getting a victory at number one from
Aisha Gurung / Addison Leasure, but a 7-5 tiebreak win at number two gave the Norse the edge and the early team point. The Kohawks responded with a victory at number six and number three singles from
Maria Bello Escobar and
Aisha Gurung to take the lead in the match. Luther quickly regained the lead with wins at numbers two and four, putting itself one victory from the title.
Sophia Fain ensured the match would go the distance at the top singles spot with a 6-3, 6-3 win, but Luther managed to secure a victory in the pivotal decider, claiming a tiebreaking win at number five.
