CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College men's tennis coach
Eric Rodgers announced earlier today his retirement following 37 seasons as a Kohawk. Rodgers, who came to Coe as the Director of the Clark Racquet Center and the men's and women's tennis head coach in 1989, leaves a lasting legacy with nearly 890 victories and a combined 40 regular-season and postseason conference titles. Coach Rodgers earned nine IIAC Men's Coach of the Year honors and five IIAC Women's Coach of the Year honors while coaching 12 men's and four women's conference MVPs. Rodgers coached Coe's first-ever men's and women's all-Americans in tennis and, in total, had 12 all-American selections.
From Coe College President David Hayes:
"Coach
Eric Rodgers has shaped generations of talented student athletes at Coe, guiding them to excellence in competition and preparing them for lives and careers marked by purpose and success. As the only director of the racquet center in its history, he built a culture that elevated our entire racquet program to national recognition for excellence. His legacy is measured not only in wins and championships, but in the character, achievement, and lifelong impact of the students he mentored."
From Coe College Director of Athletics and Recreation Steve Cook:
"Coach Rodgers has left a lasting impact on Coe Athletics and Kohawk Tennis, dedicating the past 37 years to his student-athletes and the program. Since stepping on campus, Coach Rodgers has set a new standard for Coe's men's and women's teams with an unprecedented track record of success both on and off the court. I want to thank Eric for all that he's done at Coe and wish him all the best in retirement."
