STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Coe College men's golf team turned in a strong opening round on Saturday at the Buena Vista University Invite, shooting a team score of 291, which has the Kohawks tied with Iowa Lakes Community College.
Tyler Santi paced the team with an opening-round score of two-under, 69, as the sophomore recorded a first-round best five birdies to sit in second place with nine holes to play. Freshman
Kael Smith had the best round of his young collegiate career on Saturday, shooting a two-over par 73 as the Cedar Rapids native made 14 pars and one birdie. Smith, sitting in a tie for sixth place, was followed by
Tommy Kulesza and
Caden Weddingfeld on the individual leaderboard as the pair shot rounds of 74 and 75, respectively, to round out a solid team effort on day one.
C. Reece Breitenbach was the final player of the five-man squad in action, shooting 81 with one birdie on the card.
Jackson Pipho and
Brady Yergens competed as individuals in the tournament, posting scores of 76 and 85.
