ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Coe College volleyball team fell in heartbreaking fashion on Tuesday evening, falling 3-2 to the Augustana College Vikings. The Kohawks won the opening two sets, claiming 25-23 victories in both sets to grab momentum. Augustana answered back, dominating the third set with a 25-16 decision before edging out a 25-23 victory in set four. The Vikings continued to ride the comeback train in the fifth set, scoring eight of the final nine points to pull off the dramatic win. Freshman
Jasmine Shields led Coe's attacking effort in the defeat, totaling 18 kills while
Tessa Casebolt and
Brooke Sullivan hit double-digits with 13 and 10 kills each.

AUGUSTANA 3 - COE 2
- The opening set was back-and-forth, despite Coe racing out to an early 7-4 advantage. The hosts battled back, scoring five straight to take a 10-8 lead. Later in the set, Coe ripped off five straight points to flip the score to 17-16. The teams traded the next few points, but a four-point run to close out the set gave the Kohawks a 1-0 lead. Augustana led 8-7 in set number two and pulled away with a dominant run, scoring five straight to extend the gap to six at 13-7. Coe stormed back, getting a 7-1 run to pull within one at 17-16. Augie restored a three-point lead momentarily but the Kohawk surge continued as the visitors scored nine of the final 13 points to take a 2-0 sets lead. Augustana got one back in set three, dominating the period with a .265 attack percentage while the Kohawks hit -.023 with 11 errors and just 10 kills. The Vikings had another solid showing offensively in the fouth set, managing to escape with a 25-23 victory as the hosts hit .220 with 14 kills. The fifth set was tight early on with Coe leading 5-4 but Augie ended the match with eight of the final nine points to secure the five-set win.
