Cory, a certified Iowa DNR and NRA Level One coach was hired to help launch the co-ed program which has been competing as a club sport during 2019.
 
Patrick graduated with his BS from St. Cloud State University and went on to receive his MA from St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. In 2007, Cory became a National Board Certified Teacher and he currently teaches History and Social Sciences at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. He has coached and taught trap at Kennedy prior to joining the Coe Athletic Staff.

At Coe, Cory has led his team to a national podium finish in each season. 2022 marked the first trophy for Coe, finishing second place at the ACUI National Meet in San Antonio. The Kohawks took second in the Classic All-American discipline thanks in part to standout performances from Bradley Metz and Erin Neppl. 2022-23 brought the program's most successful season in history, ending with a national championship in the DIII Classic All-American discipline. Three Kohawks earned podium positions with Erin Neppl, Whitney Finer, Allison Darling placing in the top three of their respective divisions.

Cory's 2023-24 Kohawk team brought home a trophy from the ACUI National Meet for the third year in a row, finishing runner up in the Division II All-American discipline. The 2024-25 season marked the fourth season running the program brought home a trophy from San Antonio, placing third in the DII Classic All-American discipline while Gregory Stewart finished runner-up in the High Male Classic All-American combined leaderboard.
