Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Downs Cornell Behind Late Goal

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team won 1-0 over Cornell College on Saturday evening at Clark Field. The two teams battled through a scoreless first half but a 75th minute goal from Andrew Burdick sealed the Bremner Cup victory. Coe now leads the Bremner Cup 3-2 over Cornell.

The teams used the first half to feel one another out with neither team creating any real scoring opportunity until late into the opening 45. With just over nine minutes to play in the half, Cornell had a set piece chance just over 25-yards away from the goal. Facundo Benavidez struck it well for the Rams but Connor Teget came up with a big save to keep the score tied at zero. Despite an open and free flowing game neither team created any other scoring chances prior to the halftime whistle.

The stalemate continued in the early moments of the second half but Cornell attempted seven shots in the first 11 minutes of action. Teget continued his strong evening stopping the three attempts on target. Coe found the game-winning goal on a break out of its own zone as Connor Fitch took it up the right wing, beat his man and fired a shot on target. Cornell goalie Tom Gallagher was up to the original challenge but his save dropped to the feet of Burdick who finished to give Coe to the lead in the 75th minute of the match.

Cornell had a few chances over the remaining 15 minutes of the match but Teget made two more saves to clinch the win and the clean sheet.

Next Up: The Kohawks will try for their first conference win of the season on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. when they host Nebraska Wesleyan at Clark Field.
