Men’s Soccer Keeps Win-Streak Alive Behind Three Late Goals at Buena Vista

Storm Lake, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer won 3-2 in dramatic come from behind fashion at Buena Vista on Saturday evening. The win is the Coe's third-straight and improves the Kohawks to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the A-R-C. Coe trailed 2-0 in the 70th minute but two late goals sent the game into overtime. In overtime the Kohawks were awarded a penalty and Kyree Morney delivered for the victory. 
 
The teams got a feel for the match early on in the first half as both had shots on goal within the first ten minutes of play. Despite some solid scoring chances for both teams neither was able to score the opener in the first 45 minutes. For Coe, keeper Connor Teget stood tall, saving all three Beaver shots while Andrew Burdick produced the Kohawks lone shot on target 
 
The Kohawks opened the second half on the front-foot, receiving a corner and recording a shot but Coe was unable to find the back of the net. Buena Vista broke the tie in the 55th minute when Jose Martinez cashed in off assists from Jovani Gomez and Troy Finnegan. The Beavers struck again in the 57th minute, this time off the head of Braeden Evans. 
 
Trailing 2-0, Coe turned up the pressure on Buena Vista, recording four shots total and three on target in the next 15 minutes of play. The Kohawks finally broke through in the 74th minute when Connor Fitch converted. Five minutes later Coe tied it up thanks to a goal from Brayden Koch and the unlikely assist from Teget. Although both teams created scoring chances in the final 15 minutes, neither squad was able to break the tie in regulation.
 
The first overtime period began similarly to the opening 45 minutes with both teams feeling each other out. Buena Vista recorded the only shot of the first overtime half but Martinez's effort sailed wide. BVU and Coe traded shots to open the second overtime period but neither team could take advantagae of the chances. In the 107th minute, Buena Vista was called for a hand ball in the box and Coe was awarded a penalty kick. Morney stepped up to the spot and sealed the comeback victory with the goal.
 
Next up: The Kohawks hit the road on Wednesday for a matchup with Wartburg at 7:30 p.m.
