CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to the 17
th ranked University of St. Thomas before concluding the weekend with a 3-0 win over Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon in Kohawk arena. The results bring the Kohawks record to 13-16 on the year with three games remaining in the regular season.
Match One
The Kohawks started the afternoon with a tough matchup against a ranked Tommies team. The Kohawks proved up to the challenge in the opening set and jumped out to an early lead. The Tommies would make a run to make it tight midway through the set, but a five point Kohawk run was enough for a 25-16 win in set one. The Tommies responded winning three close sets 25-22, 25-23, 26-24 to hold off a strong performance from the Kohawks.
Madi Parson led the Kohawks with 21 kills while adding 11 digs for a double-double.
Kate Tidman and
Morgan Kluesner had strong games as well with double-doubles of their own.
Elli Teeple had a double-double of her own as she handed out 43 to her big hitters.
Majda Suljic had a team high 23 digs.
Match Two
After a battle earlier in the day Coe came out with plenty of energy against the Knights as they opened the first set with a four point run. After grabbing an early lead the Kohawks took complete control with a six point run capped off by back-to-back aces by Tidman en route to a 25-15 win in set one. Set two started off close but the Kohawks used three four point runs to pull away and take the set 25-12. Leading two sets to none the Kohawks did not let up as they jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the third set and cruised to a 25-13 win. Eight Kohawks recorded kills in the sweep lead by Parson with 11 and Tidman with ten. Teeple handed out 33 assists to the variety of attackers and Suljic lead the defense with 12 digs.
All-Tournament Team
Parson was named to the Kohawk Invite all-tournament for her performance in the four games over the week. Parson recorded 67 kills averaging 4.19 kills per set while adding 36 digs in the 16 sets Coe played. Parson was joined by three others on the team selected by the coaches.
