CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to league-leading [18] Central on Saturday evening at Clark Field. The loss drops Coe to 7-10 overall and 2-5 in the American Rivers Conference.
The game was back-and-forth in the first half as both teams created scoring chances to open the game. Coe's best chance of the first half came in the 7th minute when the Kohawks had back-to-back shots on goal that were saved by the Central keeper. The Dutch had a great chance in the 23rd minute but
Connor Teget saved the initial shot. The rebound was tapped in by a Central attacker but he was ruled offside, negating the goal.
Central opened the second half on the attack, tallying eight shots in the first 17 minutes of the period. Coe got its first shot in the 62nd minute when
Connor Fitch had a one-on-one chance with the goalie but the Central keeper made a great save with his fingertips. The Kohawks had a great chance in the 69th minute as they were awarded four-straight corners but no one could find the back of the net.
Central finally got on the board in the 75th minute of the match as Ian Meentemeyer scored his fourth goal of the season. Tony Cervelli controlled the ball down the sideline and found teammate Tristin Gilles inside the box who linked up with the goal scorer Meentemeyer.
Next Up: The Kohawks will travel to Dubuque on Wednesday for their final game of the 2019 campaign.
