DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College women's soccer team fell 2-0 at Dubuque on Tuesday evening but still managed to qualify for the A-R-C postseason tournament as Nebraska Wesleyan also fell 1-0 to Simpson, securing the Kohawks sixth-place position. Coe ends the regular season 8-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the American Rivers Conference.
Coe and UD played a scoreless 45 minutes to open the game but both teams had solid scoring chances in the first half. The Kohawks tallied five shots including two on goal but the Spartan keeper was up to the challenge. Dubuque had a few scoring threats, totaling three shots in the first half but none of the shots tested Kohawk keeper
Kacey Baker.
UD ramped up the pressure early in the second half, recording six shots in the opening 15 minutes. The Spartans finally beat Baker in the 63rd minute as Brooke Brodzinski scored her fifth goal of the season to put UD ahead 1-0. Coe responded in the 65th minute as
Sydney Schroder had a shot on goal but she was unable to beat the keeper as Coe continued to trail. Dubuque got an insurance goal in the 80th minute as Brodzinski scored her second of the evening to secure the victory.
Next up: Coe will face off against Dubuque once again but this time in the opening round of the American Rivers Postseason Tournament. The Kohawks will travel to take on the Spartans on Saturday, November 2nd. This is the sixth-straight year that the Kohawks have qualified for postseason play.
