Kohawks sweep Ripon; Fall in five to Illinois College

Jacksonville, Ill. - The Kohawks opened their day at Illinois College with a sweep of Ripon before falling to the host Lady Blues in five sets. Coe moves to 10-12 with the Saturday split.

Coming off a sweep of Alma yesterday the Kohawks kept rolling in their first game of the day. Coe got challenged in each set by Ripon but every time the Redhawks got close the Kohawks were able to put together another run. In the first set the biggest run came after the Redhawks closed to within 11-10. Coe rallied off seven straight to pull away and take the first set 25-15. A pair of late six point runs lead Coe to a 25-15 win in set two. The Kohawks used an early 6-1 run in set three to jump in front of the Redhawks and then held to complete the sweep 25-20.

The Kohawks got big games from some different faces in a balanced attack. Bryce Klein had a season high ten kills while hitting a season best .692. Freshmen Morgan Wills had a career high nine kills. Kate Tidman lead the attack with 11 kills while recording a team high 15 digs for a double-double. Elli Teeple had a double-double of her own with 39 assists and 12 digs. Majda Suljic added 13 digs.

Having won the first two games of the weekend trip the Kohawks looked to get a third straight win against Illinois College. Coe got off to a good start as they closed out the first set with a four point run to win in 25-20. The Lady Blues battled back in the second set taking four of the final five points to win a close set 25-23. The teams continued to go back and forth as Coe never trailed in the third set winning 25-22 to take a two set to one lead. In set four things looked headed for a fifth set early as the Lady Blues got up 24-14. The Kohawks battled back with ten straight to tie things at 24 but couldn't complete the comeback as the Lady Blues responded taking the final two points and forcing a fifth set with a 26-24 win. The Lady Blues used the scare in the fourth set to propel them past the Kohawks in the fifth set 15-11 as they never trailed.

Tidman had a big game with 27 kills while fellow freshmen Madi Parson joined the attack with 15 kills. Both recorded double-doubles adding 11 digs each. Morgan Kluesner added a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Teeple set up the three bigger hitters with 53 assists while Suljic lead the defense with 22 digs.

Coe returns to action on Friday, October 11th as they travel to Simpson College for a conference matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 in Indianola.
