CHICAGO, Illinois — The Coe College women's basketball team lost 72-47 to North Park University in the championship game of the NPU Tip-Off Tournament. The Golden Eagles got out to an early lead, outscoring Coe 22-14 in the first quarter and never looked back. The loss drops Coe to 2-2 overall while North Park improves to 2-0 on the year. Madeline Wilkins led the Kohawks with eight points while Molly Buck and Sydney Schroder added seven each. 
 
NPU opened the game with a 6-1 run in the first two minutes of the game but Coe fought back to tie the game at six with just over six minutes left in the quarter. The Kohawks then scored three-straight to lead 9-6 but a 16-5 run by North Park to end the quarter allowed the Golden Eagles to take control of the contest.
 
Coe's offensive woe's continued in the second quarter, scoring just 10 points in the frame. The Kohawk defense did slow the Golden Eagles in the period but 10 points in the final two-and-a-half minutes of play saw NPU take a 12 point lead into the half. Coe was 7-of-21 from the field in the first half and 2-of-7 from downtown while North Park was 13-of-26 from the floor and 4-of-9 from deep. 
 
The Kohawks opened the third quarter with back-to-back baskets including a 3 from Wilkins, cutting the deficit to seven just thirty seconds in the frame. North Park fired right back, holding Coe scoreless for four minutes while ripping off 10 straight points. With its largest lead of the game, NPU continued to click offensively, seeing out the lead and securing the victory. 
 
Up Next: The Kohawks return home for non-conference battle with Cornell College on Wednesday, November 20th. The Bremner Cup matchup is set to start at 7 pm in Kohawk Arena.
