Luther Downs Women’s Basketball 78-54

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team fell to Luther College 78-54 on Saturday afternoon at the A-R-C. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak and drops the Kohawks to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the American Rivers Conference while Luther improves to 2-5 and 2-0 in the league. Coe held a 32-30 lead at the break but Luther outscored the Kohawks 48-22 in the second half to complete the come-from-behind victory. Jamie Feldt led the Kohawks with 14 points, adding two rebounds, two assists and two steals in the contest. 
 
Coe opened the game with a 5-2 run over the first 2-plus minutes of the contest but Luther drew even with a long-ball with 5:18 to play in the first quarter. Coe responded right back, ripping off a 6-3 run over the next 3:21 of the period to retake an 11-8 lead. After an empty trip up the floor for Luther, Jamie Feldt hit a 3 to increase the Kohawk lead to 14-8 with just under a minute to play in the quarter. Jackie Feldt capped off the solid first for the Kohawks with a jumper, pushing Coe's lead to six points after one period.
 
Luther opened the second quarter on fire, ripping off an 11-3 spurt over the first 2:55 of the period, taking its first lead since 2-0 at the beginning of the contest. Coe then settled into the quarter, putting together an 11-7 stretch in the next five minutes of the contest, which was highlighted by 3s from Jamie Feldt, Taylor Huber, and Madeline Wilkins. The run gave Coe a 30-26 lead with 1:45 left in the half but Luther scored four of the final six points to cut the deficit to just two.
 
The Norse erupted out of the break with a 16-3 spurt to grab a double-digit lead and take control of the contest just mid-way through the third quarter. Coe ended the Luther run but traded baskets for the remainder of the period and trailed 53-43 after three quarters. Luther stayed hot to start the final quarter, putting together a 10-1 run to take a 19 point lead while putting the game out of reach for the Kohawks. 
 
Up Next: Coe is back in action on Wednesday, December 17 when the Kohawks travel to Elmhurst for a matchup with the Blue Jays at 4 p.m.
