Cedar Rapids, Iowa - Coe conclude their weekend with a pair of losses to tough opponents out of Wisconsin. The Kohawks fell to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in five sets and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in straight sets on Saturday afternoon.
After a pair of long matches yesterday the Kohawks opened up day two of the Mabel Lee Invite with another five set match. The Kohawks battled back and forth with the Blugolds throughout the match. After falling in the opening set 25-14, Coe seized control of the match with back to back wins. Coe took the second set 25-14 and the third 25-19 to grab control of things. The Blugolds were able to get back in the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set sending the game to a fifth set. Coe was plagued by attack errors late as a back and forth set went the Blugolds way after back to back Kohawk errors with things tied at 15. The 17-15 win gave the Blugolds a 3-2 win.
Three Kohawks recorded double-doubles lead by
Madi Parson with 14 kills and 18 digs.
Morgan Kluesner had 12 kills and 10 digs while
Kate Tidman finished with 11 kills and 14 digs. The Kohawk middles added some offense to the usually strong attack from the outside.
Nicole Heins had 5 kills and
Bryce Klein added 4.
Majda Suljic lead the defense from her libero spot with 24 digs.
In their final game of their home invitational Coe took on the Pioneers from Platteville. The Kohawks struggled to get going as they fell in straight sets to the Pionners. Coe got behind early dropping set one 25-22 and set two 25-16. The Kohawks continue to fight as they battled back from down five early to take a late 21-20 lead in the third set. The Kohawks couldn't complete the comeback as the Pioneers responded with a 5-1 run to take the third set 25-22.
Klein had a strong game hitting .625 on her way to five kills. Tidman lead Coe with nine kills while Suljic again lead the defense recording 16 digs.
The Kohawks will hit the road to resume conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Dubuque to take on Loras College. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 on Lillis Court.
