Kohawks fall twice in five sets

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Kohawks had a long day on the court Friday as they battled late into the night in five set matches. Coe lost both of their games to drop to 8-6 on the season.

Coe is hosting eight other teams this weekend at the Mabel Lee Invite this weekend inside Kohawk Arena and Eby Fieldhose. The Kohawks played two games on Friday night losing both in five set battles.

In the opener Coe went back and forth with Carleton. The Knights and Kohawks traded wins through the first four sets as Carleton won the first set 25-19 and the third set 25-21. Coe bounced back twice winning the second set 26-24 and the fourth set 25-16 to force a decisive fifth set. The Kohawks fell in the fifth set as the Knights used a five point run with things tied at eight to pull away and hold on to defeat the Kohawks 15-13.

The Kohawks had three players record double-doubles. Morgan Kluesner had a team high 17 kills to go with 14 digs. Kate Tidman had 15 kills and 19 digs while Madi Parson added 10 kills and 13 digs. Elli Teeple distrubed the ball to the top three Kohawk hitters with 46 assists. Majda Suljic lead the Coe defense with 26 digs.

After the five set game to start the night the Kohawks had to dig deep for another battle as they went five sets with St. Olaf in the nightcap. The Oles camp out fast as they won the first two sets 25-20 and 27-25 to take a commanding lead. Coe showed their fight as they battle to win a hard fought third set 26-24. The Kohawks build on the momentum from the third set to win the fourth set 25-16 to force a second fifth game of the day. Coe fell as the Oles scored the final five points to win 15-10 and defeat the Kohawks 3-2.

Parson recorded her second double-double of the night with 16 kills and 17 digs while Suljic continued to lead the defense with a team high 21 digs. Tidman lead the way offensively with 19 kills while Bryce Klein gave Coe a presence at the net with a pair of block assists.
