Box Score Rock Island, Ill. – Coe opened the season with a road loss. The Kohawks were defeated 41-3 by Augustana.
The game started slow as both them struggled to get things going offensively. Coe got an interception from
Brian Robertson midway through the first quarter to set the Kohawks up for the first score of the game. Tristen Connell capped of a seven play drive with a 28 yard field goal to put Coe up 3-0. Augustana answered late in the quarter as quarterback Zachary Fuller connected with Tom Dolis for a 10 yard touchdown. The late score put the Knights up 6-3 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter it was Augustana taking advantage of an interception to add to their lead. Fuller found Max Uranich three plays after the Coe turnover for a 28 yard touchdown. Coe had an opportunity to cut in to the 13-3 defiect late in the half. The Kohawks drove the ball 51 yards on 13 plays before a long field goal attempt came up short.
The second half was all Knights as they scored 28 unanswered points. In the third quarter it was turnovers that plagued the Kohawks. Augustana scored both of their touchdowns after interceptions. Fuller got the first touchdown of the quarter with a seven yard run and followed it up with a 18 yard pass to Ethan Jennings.
The fourth quarter was more of the same as the Knights turned the fourth Kohawk turnover into points as Fuller found Dolis for the second time, this time for a 35 yard touchdown. Travor Spicer would add a two yard touchdown run in the final minutes to bring the final to 41-3.
The Kohawks were outgained 449 to 193. Augustana won the battle on the ground 184-108 and the battle through the air 265-85. Coe recorded 10 first downs in the game.
Tyler Dralle lead the Kohawk run game with 54 yards on 16 carries.
Max Ridenour rushed 11 times for 45 yards from his quarterback positon. Ridenour was 11-26 and added 85 yards passing. Dralle lead all receivers with 24 yards on three receptions.
Eric Aguilar added 17 yards on two receptions and
Cody Russell had 16 yards on two receptions.
AJ Christensen lead the defense with seven tackles.
Jacob Elsbury and Robertson each added six.
Logan Rickard and
Hunter Semelroth each recorded a tackle for a loss.
The Kohawks will conclude their non-conference schedule at home next Saturday against rival Cornell College. The game will be the first night game in the history of Clark Field with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
