Women’s Basketball Shoots Their Way to Road Win

Box Score INDIANOLA Iowa – The Coe College women's basketball team won 84-75 at Simpson College on Wednesday night. The Kohawks got out to a 19-10 lead after one quarter and held off the Storm in the second half. The Kohawks converted 52.2 percent of their 3s while shooting 56.9 percent overall. Coe held Simpson to 31.8 percent from 3 and 42.4 percent overall. 
 
Madeline Wilkins and Jackie Feldt led the team with 26 points each. Wilkins tied the school record hitting 8-of-11 3s while adding two rebounds and two assists. Feldt went 9-14 from the floor and 8-11 from the free throw line while adding six rebounds and four assists. Jamie Feldt led the Kohawks with nine rebounds while adding 12 points and Sydney Schroder had eight assists to lead Coe. 
 
The Kohawks got off to a fast start leading 19-10 after the first quarter. Trailing 10-8 midway through the quarter the Kohawks used a 12-2 run to take the lead after the first ten minutes of play. Wilkins started the run with a 3 and Jackie Feldt followed with back-to-back baskets to spark the run. 
 
The second quarter went back and forth as Coe held tough against the press of the Storm. Simpson cut the Kohawk lead to four midway through the quarter but the Kohawks responded to take a 39-29 lead into the locker room. 
 
Simpson battled back in the third quarter using a 9-0 run to close the gap before taking a one point lead with 4:25 left in the quarter. The Kohawks responded with back-to-back 3s from Wilkins putting Coe back in front for good. Leading 56-53 the Kohawks got baskets for four different players as they stretched their lead to six at the end of the third quarter. 
 
Jackie Feldt and Jamie Feldt combined for eight points in the early part of the fourth quarter as the Kohawk lead grew to 11. The Storm made one final push for a comeback but Wilkins all but ended their chances with her eighth 3 of the game to put Coe up seven with just over three minutes to play. Coe connected with 8 of 12 free throws in the final three minutes to secure the 84-75 win. 
 
Up next: Coe is back in action on Saturday as they return to Kohawk Arena to host Buena Vista at 2:00 p.m. The Kohawks will honor their four seniors after the game.
