CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team swept a pair of matches against Wheaton and Simpson on Saturday at Clark Racquet Center. The Kohawks opened the day with a 7-2 victory over the Thunder and then took down Simpson 9-0 to make it three-straight conference victories. The Kohawks improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the A-R-C while Wheaton drops to 2-3 as Simpson falls to 1-4.
The Kohawks come out hot in the morning match against Wheaton, winning two of three doubles matches to hold an early lead in the contest.
Jon Lansing/Nathan Meskell opened the day at #3 with an 8-3 victory while
Tyler Nelson/Nate Greiner won 8-6 at #2 to give the Kohawks the edge entering singles. Greiner's solid day continued as he won 6-2, 6-2 at #2 to make it 3-1 Coe and then
Rami Hemaidan made it 4-1 with a 6-1, 7-6 victory at #1. Following a victory for Wheaton, Meskell clinched the match for the Kohawks with a 6-4, 7-5 win at #4 singles. With the win in hand,
Bo Wilson and Nelson both on went to win their singles matches to lock up the 7-2 victory over Wheaton.
The dominance continued for the Kohawks in the second match of the day as they swept Simpson 9-0. Greiner/
Jordan Oaks, Lansing/Meskell and Hemaidan/Wilson all won 8-0 in doubles to give Coe the 3-0 advantage before singles play. Coe then won all six singles matches while dropping just three games over all six matches. Wilson, Oaks, Greiner and Lansing all picked up 6-0, 6-0 victories as Meskell won 6-1, 6-1 and Nelson won 6-0, 6-1 to complete the perfect sweep.
Up next: The Kohawks return to the court on February 29 when they take on Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
