Wrestling Defeats Cornell 34-9 in Bremner Cup Dual

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Coe College wrestling team evened up the score in the Bremner Cup with a dominating 34-9 victory over Cornell on Friday evening. The Kohawks opened the match with a pin from Alex Friddle and a tech fall victory from Brock Henderson to take an early lead in the dual. The Rams took the next bout with a decision victory but Josh Gerke pinned his opponent while Gabe Fiser won via decision to give Coe total control of the dual. Following a win for Cornell at 165, freshman Tristin Westphal dominated his opponent for a major decision and swing the momentum back in Coe's favor. Again, the Rams took a close decision at 184 but Taylor Mehmen and Kaleb Reeves ended the match with back-to-back victories as Mehmen won by major decision with Reeves pinning his opponent. The win is Coe's third-straight dual victory over Cornell and ties the current Bremner Cup score at 5-5 with five events remaining in the 2019-20 season.
