Match Facts
  • The teams were immediately locked in a heated battle in the opening set, trading points back and forth early on. The visitors took an early lead, jumping out to a 10-7 advantage over the Kohawks but Coe fought back and scored three straight to take their first lead since it led 1-0. Coe continued to control the match, stretching its lead to 20-17 after a block by Parson and Urbatsch which forced a timeout from UWP. The lead grew for Coe, as it pushed the lead to 24-20 which proved enough for the opening set victory as UWP only mustered 23 points.
  • Coe dominated the second set of the match, opening up an 8-2 lead early on which forced another timeout from the Pioneers. The Kohawks continued to dominate after the pause, building the lead to ten points as they led 15-5 which caused the Pioneers to call time again. The break didn't stop the Coe run as it remained dominant for the rest of the period, earning a 25-12 victory to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Kohawks raced out to another early lead in the third set, taking an 8-2 lead before a timeout from Platteville. The Kohawks built upon the lead after the break, pushing the advantage to 14-3 before a service error gave the serve back to the Pioneers. The visitors managed to score two straight points after the error but the Kohawks showed no panic, regaining control with a 4-0 spurt as they led 18-5. The Pioneers continued to fight for the final few points of the set but the Kohawk lead proved too large to come back from as Coe secured the victory.
Up next: Coe will return to the court on Saturday, October 16 when it hosts Wartburg College in a crucial A-R-C matchup scheduled for 4 PM at Kohawk Arena.
