Women’s Soccer Secures 1-0 Victory over Central

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over A-R-C opponent Central College on Wednesday evening at Clark Field. The Kohawks scored the game's lone goal in the 10th minute of the match as Isa Partain tallied her first of the season to give Coe the early advantage. Central and Coe continued to battle for the remainder of the contest but five saves in the match from Kohawk keeper Alex Montalbano kept the Dutch off the board. The victory moves the Kohawks to

Match Facts
  • Central had the game's first few shots, registering two early attempts on net but Alex Montalbano was up to the challenge as she kept the Dutch off the board.
  • Coe battled its way back into the match, earning a corner kick in the 10th minute before Partain broke the deadlock for the Kohawks. Brianna Ellsworth started the move with a driving run down the left flank before whipping a ball into the box to find Partain who settled it and scored her first goal of the season.
  • The Kohawks continued to press the Dutch for the remainder of the half, earning three corners before the end of the frame but the visitors managed to withstand the pressure as the score remained 1-0 at the break. 
  • Central and Coe traded shots to open the second period but both missed the frame as the teams went quiet until the 75-minute mark. The Dutch began to press late in the match, registering a shot on target but Montalbano stopped it to keep Coe's lead. The Kohawks continued to show poise for the final few moments of play despite the press from the Dutch, controlling possession in the offensive half of the field to wind the clock en route to the victory. 
Up next: The Kohawks will be back in action on homecoming Saturday when they welcome Simpson to campus for an A-R-C match at 5 PM.
