#4 Wrestling Opens Season at Luther Open, Reeves Claims Heavyweight Title in Elite Bracket

DECORAH, Iowa - The number four ranked Coe College wrestling team opened its season on Saturday at the annual Luther College open which featured eight nationally ranked teams including the University of Iowa. Coe's heavyweight Kaleb Reeves, who is ranked fourth in the nation, recorded four pins on the day en route to victory in the elite 285 bracket. Alex Friddle, the fourth ranked 125-pounder in the country earned a third place finish in the elite bracket, falling to the eventual runner-up from University of the Ozarks who fell to Iowa's Jesse Ybarra in the title match. AJ Patterson, who had three pins on the day, also finished inside the top-three of the elite 157 bracket, defeating David Hollingsworth of Wartburg in the third place match 13-8.

  • Coe had seven wrestlers place inside the top-eight in the elite division including two wrestlers in the 157-pound and 285-pound bracket as Will Esmoil and Guy Snow joined Patterson and Reeves. Brock Henderson and Logan Andeway also finished inside the top eight of their respective brackets as Henderson earned sixth at 141 while Andeway took eight in the 184 bracket. 
  • The Kohawks saw two wrestlers claim titles in the silver divisions as freshman LJ Richardson took the top spot in the 174-pound bracket while Jared Voss claimed the title in the 197 bracket. Richardson defeated Carter Sorenson from Augsburg in the final, dominating his opponent for a tech-fall victory at 16-0.
Up next: Coe returns to action next weekend on Saturday, November 20 when it hosts the annual Coe College Invite which is scheduled to begin at 9 AM.
