Women’s Basketball Fights Back, Drops A-R-C Opener at Luther

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team came up short in American Rivers Conference opener at Luther College on Tuesday evening, falling 64-62. The Kohawks mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback, outscoring the Norse 22-13 in the final period but fell short in the end. Ellie Wisner and Alyse Southard both had 13 points to lead the offensive effort. Molly Buck also finished with double-figures, scoring 12 points on 5-of-15 points, adding six rebounds. Katie Wilhelmi was the fourth Kohawk in double-digits with 10 points. The Loss drops the Kohawks to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the league while the Norse improve to 2-4 and 1-0 in the A-R-C.

Game Facts
  • The Kohawks trailed by seven at the end of the first quarter as the Norse totaled 23 points. Coe came out renewed in the second quarter, giving up just 12 points in the frame, but had a 10-point halftime deficit.
  • Both sides matched each other in the third quarter as Coe scored 15 points. Luther maintained its double-digit lead under the 4:41 mark in the final frame.
  • The Kohawks made five field goals in the final four minutes, including two three-pointers, to get it back to a one-possession game. Coe got the ball last with seven seconds left, but could not tie it at the buzzer.  
Up next: Coe will be back in action on Wednesday, December 1 at home, taking on Loras at 5:30 p.m.
