CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to Cornell College 55-45 on Wednesday evening at Kohawk Arena. The Kohawks trailed by just two points at the halftime break but Cornell outscored Coe 18-12 in the third period to take control of the game and secure the victory. Coe suffers its third non-conference loss of the season, dropping to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the A-R-C while Cornell improves to 7-3 on the year.
Coe was led by junior guard
Molly Buck as she poured in 18 points while hitting 4-of-9 from downtown. Freshman
Ellie Wisner also eclipsed the double-figure mark for the Kohawks, tallying 16 points while adding seven rebounds and one block.
Kaalyn Petersen grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds in the contest, adding six points, two assists, two blocks and one steal across 34 minutes of action.

Game Facts
- Both teams struggled offensively to start the game but the visitors grabbed an early 7-0 lead before the five-minute mark of the first quarter. Coe got on the board with 5:15 to play in the opening frame as Buck hit a pair of free throws to make it 7-2. The Kohawks then quickly cut the deficit to just one point with 3:42 remaining as Elle Walker knocked down a 3 thanks to an assist from Ella Imler. Cornell responded with three-straight points to push its lead back to four but Coe ended the quarter with a 5-2 spurt to cut the Ram lead to just one after one.
- The run continued for Coe at the start of the second quarter as Buck hit a 3 to give the hosts their first lead at 14-12. The Rams answered the spurt with a 9-0 run over the next 4:10 of game time as Cornell took a 21-14 lead with under four minutes remaining in the first half. The Kohawks clawed back within two points of the lead before the end of the half, scoring the final five points of the period to make it 21-19 at the break.
- Cornell quickly extended its lead in the first two minutes of the third quarter, getting back-to-back baskets from Madison Wauters as she made it 25-19. Ellie Wisner then made it a three-point game after the teams traded possessions, hitting a deep 3 to cut Cornell's lead to 27-24. The Rams continued to click on offense for the final five-plus minutes of the third, outscoring Coe 12-7 down the stretch to take a 39-31 lead after three.
- The teams went back and forth for a majority of the fourth quarter but Coe cut the lead to seven points after another 3 from Wisner as she made it 47-40 with 3:57 left to play. Cornell showed poise over the final few moments of the game, converting on numerous clutch free throws to lock up the victory.
Up next: Coe returns to the floor on December 20 when it hits the road for a non-conference matchup at Elmhurst with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 PM.
