CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to UW-River Falls, falling 51-35 to the Falcons on Thursday evening at Kohawk Arena. Coe and UW-River Falls battled back and forth in the opening quarter but the Kohawks scored just three points in the second period to fall behind. The Falcons and Kohawks both struggled offensively in the third quarter but River Falls outscored Coe 13-7 in the final frame to secure the victory. The loss drops Coe to 4-8 on the year and 3-5 in non-conference play while UW-River Falls improves to 6-4 on the season and 6-2 in non-league action.
Kaalyn Petersen led Coe in the game, posting 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal while freshman guard
Ellie Wisner eclipsed double-figures with 12 points. Coe shot 14-of-46 from the floor and 5-of-19 from beyond the arc while UW-River Falls was 20-of-62 and 5-of-25 from deep.

Game Facts
- The Kohawks opened the contest with a bucket from Petersen just over 30 seconds into the game but UW-River Falls answered with a pair of free throws to make it 2-2. Alyse Southard put the Kohawks back in front on the ensuing possession, knocking down a 3 with 8:43 left in the first.
- The Falcons then outscored the hosts 13-7 over the next four-plus minutes of action, grabbing a 15-12 lead at the four-minute mark of the period. The teams traded blows over the final few moments of the quarter, matching one another with four points each as the visitors led 19-16 after one.
- UW-River Falls stretched its lead early in the second period with back-to-back 3s as the Falcons took a 25-16 advantage just over a minute into the frame. Coe answered with a 3 of its own on the next offensive set as Wisner cashed in from deep to make it 25-19. Both teams went cold for the remainder of the second quarter but the Falcons managed a 7-0 run before the half, taking a 32-19 advantage into the break.
- The Kohawks immediately cut into the lead in the first minute-plus of the third quarter. Wisner opened the second-half scoring with a layup to make it 32-21 before Katie Wilhelmi hit a 3 to cut the deficit to just eight. The visitors showed no panic despite the small run from Coe, scoring four-straight points to regain a double-digit lead with 7:08 remaining in the third.
- Petersen responded with a layup on Coe's next possession before the game then went scoreless for almost four minutes. The Falcons ended the scoreless stretch with a layup at the 2:44 mark but the Kohawks got the final bucket of the period from Wisner on a running layup.
- Coe continued to slice into the lead in the first few moments of the final quarter. Wisner opened the frame with another clutch 3 before Petersen made it a five-point game with 8:53 to play. UW-River Falls grabbed control of the contest over the next five minutes of action, ripping off an 11-0 outburst to extend its lead to 16 points with just over two minutes to play. Petersen ended the scoreless run for Coe with a layup at the two-minute mark but the Falcons managed the final minutes en route to the victory.
Up next: Coe will return to the court following the New Year on Monday, January 3 when it heads to local-foe Mount Mercy for a matchup at 5:00 PM.
