Women's Basketball Wins Third-Straight Game at Luther

DECORAH, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team won its third-straight game at Luther College on Wednesday evening, taking down the Norse 79-39. The Kohawks trailed by one-point after the first quarter but exploded in the second quarter to outscore Luther 30-1 in the period and gain control of the contest. Coe went on to edge Luther 28-14 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach with a quarter to play. The Kohawks improve to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the A-R-C while Luther drops to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the league. 
 
Senior guard Jackie Feldt led the squad with 24 points, adding four rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block. Jamie Feldt contributed 11 points, four steals, three rebounds and one block while Molly Buck added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench. Overall, 11 Kohawks recorded points on the evening as the squad shot 41.8 percent from the floor and 41.7 from downtown. 
 
Luther began the game with the first three points after a jump shot and a free throw but Coe scored the next four to hold a slim lead at the 6:11 mark. After a long scoreless stretch, the Norse regained the lead and then scored nine of the next 11 points to take a six-point lead with 2:02 left in the frame. The Kohawks then ripped off five-straight points including an old-fashioned 3-point play from Jackie Feldt which got Coe within one-point at the end of the first. 
 
The Kohawks erupted in the second quarter outscoring Luther 30-1 while holding the Norse scoreless for 9:09 of the quarter. Luther's lone point came at the free throw line with under a minute remaining in the half. During the offensive explosion, Coe shot 62.5 percent, hit three 3s and got buckets from six different players. Following its best offensive quarter of the year, Coe led comfortably at the break, 41-13, behind 11 first-half points from Jamie Feldt.
 
Coe's dominance continued in the third quarter as it stretched its lead to 34 points at the 6:42 mark of the quarter after another 3 from Buck. The Kohawks continued to pad their lead over the next few minutes of the quarter prior to turning to the reserves for the remainder of the contest. Coe continued to maintain control for the remainder of the third quarter and the final ten minutes of action en route to its third-straight victory. 
 
Up next: Coe will be back in action on Monday, February 22nd when it travels to Dubuque for an A-R-C matchup with Loras College at 5:30 p.m.
