Women’s Basketball Hands No. 2 Wartburg First Loss of Season

Jackie Feldt Joins 1,000-Point Club

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team took down the second-ranked Knights of Wartburg College Wednesday night inside Kohawk Arena, handing the Knights their first loss of the season in exhilarating fashion. The Kohawks led by just three at the half but fended off the attempted comeback from the Knights in the third and fourth quarters. Coe improves to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Knights fall to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Jackie led the charge for the Kohawks on her milestone night with 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists. She is now the 12th women's basketball player to achieve this mark in Coe's records. Schroder added 10 points and nine rebounds, while Buck added eight points off the bench.

Wartburg got on the board first to kick-off the contest, but the Kohawks would go on a 7-0 run to take control of the first quarter. Jackie Feldt hit a career milestone in the early run, scoring her 1,000-career point at the free-throw line with 4:42 left in the first quarter. The Kohawks led by as much as 10 points in the second quarter but the Knights cut the lead down to three at 24-21 at the break. Jackie Feldt had seven first-half points. Sydney Schroder added five points and four rebounds.

The Kohawks maintained control of the game out of the break, with Molly Buck nailing back-to-back 3-point baskets to extend the Kohawk lead to 34-26 midway through the third quarter. The Knights started the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run but Jamie Feldt would break the Wartburg spurt with two free throws to give Coe the momentum back. Wartburg would take its first lead since being up 3-0 with 7:34 left to go, but the Kohawks did not break. On the final possession of the game, Wartburg had a few chances to tie the game but was unable to convert as the Kohawks secured their first victory over the Knights since 2016.

Up next: Coe will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Central College at 11 a.m. at Kohawk Arena.
