CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team took down Central 76-58 for its sixth-straight win on Monday night. The Kohawks took a double-digit lead in the first quarter thanks to 10 points from
Jackie Feldt. Coe then handled Central for the remaining three quarters, outsourcing the Dutch in two of the three remaining frames. The result moves the Kohawks to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the A-R-C while the Dutch drop to 5-3 overall and in the league.
Reigning A-R-C player of the week,
Jackie Feldt, led the Kohawks with 28 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal in 32 minutes of action.
Jamie Feldt was the only other Kohawks to eclipse the double-figure mark, adding 15 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal.
Sydney Schroder added nine assists, six rebounds, five points, two steals and one block while
Madeline Wilkins, Molly Buck and
Kaalyn Petersen had eight points each. As a team, Coe was 41.2 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from downtown while holding Central to 32.2 percent from the field.
The Kohawks got off to a great start, opening up a 16-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game.
Jackie Feldt had 10 points during the run while Wilkins added a long-ball. The Dutch settled into the contest at this point, trading buckets with the Kohawks for the remainder of the period as Coe led 25-11 after one. As a team, Coe shot 45 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from deep.
The dominance continued into the second quarter, as Coe put together a 12-8 spurt to extend its lead to 18 points. During the spurt, Coe shot 5-of-10 from the field and 1-of-2 from downtown while holding the Dutch to just 3-of-8. Kelsey Hurley ended the run for the Dutch on a layup but the Kohawks continued to shine offensively, ripping-off eight-straight points to take control of the game at 45-21. Central refused to go away despite the large deficit, scoring the final five points of the quarter to draw within 17 at the break.
Coach Waskow's squad kick-off the third quarter with a layup from
Kaalyn Petersen but the Dutch then ripped-off eight consecutive points to get within nine points of the lead.
Sydney Schroder ended the drought with a pair of free throws on Coe's next possession but a jumper for the Dutch got them within 11 points with 4:40 left in the third. The next possession,
Lexi Doyle and
Molly Buck got Coe back in front comfortably with back-to-back baskets, pushing the lead back to 15 points. The squads would trade buckets for the final few minutes of the frame as Coe led 59-45 after 30 minutes.
The Dutch still fought in the fourth quarter, despite the large deficit, scoring five of the opening eight points to get within 12.
Madeline Wilkins then converted on a pair of free throws on the offensive end to put the Kohawks back up 14 and end any hope for a Dutch comeback.
Up next: The Kohawks will return to action for the American Rivers Conference tournament which will kick-off next Tuesday, March 9.
