Volleyball Wins Five-Set Thriller to Secure Fourth-Straight Win

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College volleyball team won its fourth-straight game on Wednesday evening, taking down the University of Dubuque 3-2 at the Stoltz Sports Center. The Kohawks took an early 2-0 lead in the contest, winning set one 25-21 and set two 25-20 but the Spartans won sets three and four, forcing the fifth. Coe dominated the final frame, downing Dubuque 15-2 to secure its fourth-straight win. The Kohawks improve to 5-1 overall and in the league while the Spartans fall to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the A-R-C. 
 
Sophomore Madi Parson led the offense for Coe, posting 22 kills, just two shy of her career high. She also added 15 digs for her first double-double of the season. Middle hitter Grace Lueken attacked at a .315 clip, recording 15 kills and setting a season-high with nine digs. Elli Teeple had an excellent night directing the offense, posting 54 digs while adding four service-aces. Teeple also recorded a double-double, chipping in 13 digs in the contest. Libero Majda Suljic recorded a season-high, picking up 26 digs on the evening. 
 
Coe and Dubuque battled back-and-forth in the opening two sets but the Kohawks rallied in the middle of each set to take the early advantage. Coach Akins' squad recorded 17 kills in the opening set and held UD to less than ten kills in set one and two. The Spartans stormed back in the next two frames, recording just four hitting errors combined while holding Coe to under 10 kills in the fourth set. 
 
The Kohawks bounced back in set five after dropping two-straight, hitting a torrid .583 as Teeple served for 13-straight points while picking up two aces. Lueken added three kills in the final set including the match-clinching kill with an assist from Teeple. 
 
Up next: The Kohawks return to play on Wednesday, March 13 when they host Nebraska Wesleyan at Kohawk Arena. First-serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
