LINCOLN, Ne. - The Coe College men's soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime to Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday evening as the Prairie Wolves scored in the 108th minute to secure the win. The Kohawks opened the scoring as Brayden Koch, who stepped in at keeper, came up on a 45th-minute corner kick and scored a header. NWU tied the game in the 77th minute and then won it in the second period of overtime. The result drops Coe to 0-2 while Nebraska Wesleyan moves to 1-1. 
 
It was a cagey start to the Kohawks' second A-R-C game of the season as each team recorded just one shot in the opening 20-plus minutes. Coe broke through just before the halftime whistle blew, as Brayden Koch netted the opener at 44:43 to put Coe up 1-0 at the break. Koch's goal was assisted by Zachary Mooney as the pair recorded their first points of the campaign. 
 
It was another slow start to the half but the Kohawks recorded the first shot in the period as Gonzala Puerta saw him attempt fly wide in the 55th minute. The game began to open up over the next few minutes as Coe's Matthew Joseph forced a save from NWU's Zachary Selph in the 59th minute. The Prairie Wolves then tested the Kohawk defense with a shot attempt in the 64th and 69th but Koch was up to the challenge. NWU broke through in the 77th minute as Thomas Distefano tied the game which would send the game into extra time. Coe ended the first period well, mustering two shots and one corner in the final two minutes of the frame. Nebraska Wesleyan scored the winner in the 108th from a corner kick as Luke Monson found the back of the net. 
 
Up next: Coe will return to Cedar Rapids for the first time in its 2021 spring campaign on Saturday, April 3 when it hosts Wartburg College at 7:30 p.m.
