Coe got off to another hot start, scoring the first five points of the opening set to take control early. Luther finally got on the board after an error from the Kohawks but Coach Akins' squad scored the next five points of the set, extending their lead to 10-1. Luther finally settled into the set, but the deficit proved too large for a Norse comeback as the Kohawks took set one, 25-10.
The Kohawks stayed hot in set two, hitting .306 as a team while recording 15 kills in the frame. Luther scored the first point of the set but Coe responded with four-straight points to regain a comfortable lead. The Norse refused to go away, trading points with the Kohawks until a four-point streak got them within two of the Coe lead. Following Coach Akins' timeout, Coe turned on the heat, scoring eight of the next 12 points to take a commanding 22-16 lead. Luther would score just one point in the final few rallies of the set with Coe winning 25-17, taking a 2-0 advantage.
The domination from Coe continued in the third and final set, as it took an early 10-3 advantage. The Kohawks then ripped off eight-straight points to extend their lead to 18-3, putting the set and contest out of reach for Luther. The Norse scored four of the final seven points of the match but were unable to mount any further comeback.
Up next: The Kohawks will return to the court on Wednesday, March 10 when they travel to Dubuque for a matchup with the UD Spartans at 7:30 p.m.
