PELLA, IA – The Coe College Men's Tennis captured a pair of conference wins on the road Saturday defeating Central College 7-2 and Buena Vista University 9-0. The Kohawks improve to 12-1 (6-0 A-R-C) on the year while the Dutch drop to 1-2 (1-2 A-R-C) and the Beavers drop to 1-3 (1-2 A-R-C).
vs Central
Coe quickly took decisive wins at number one and two doubles and jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Rami Hemaidan & Bo Wilson got back on track with an 8-2 win at number one, while
Jon Lansing & Nathan Meskell remained perfect capturing an 8-3 win at number two. Central won in a tiebreaker at number three to give the Dutch their first point of the day.
The Kohawks carried the momentum into singles play and won the first three matches to secure the team win. Hemaidan got back to his winning ways taking his match 6-3, 6-2 on court one. Wilson won his 11
th in a row with a 6-4, 6-1 score on court four and Lansing clinched the meet winning 6-2, 6-3 on court two. The Dutch secured their second point of the day taking the match at number six. Meskell and
Jordan Oaks both stayed tough and captured super tiebreak wins to close out the meet.
vs Buena Vista
In the second match of the day for the Kohawks, no time was wasted during the doubles sweep. Hemaidan/Wilson were 8-1 winners on court 1 and Oaks/
Jack Cook won 8-0 on court two.
Ethan Weber/Sam Koeppl saw their first action in doubles on the season and won 8-2 on court three.
Coe kept their high level of play moving into singles winning all six matches in straight sets. Wilson keeps his hot streak going with his 12
th straight singles win, and
Nils Empen won his first varsity match of his freshman campaign on court six.
"We survived a spirited challenge from the Dutch of Central and then we were able to settle in against Buena Vista," said Head Coach
Eric Rodgers. "I am hoping the close matches help us down the road, beginning tomorrow against a highly ranked squad from Wisconsin-Whitewater."
