Volleyball Drops Matches Against Gustavus and Wheaton

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, falling 3-2 to Gustavus and 3-0 to Wheaton. The Kohawks fought hard in the opening match, forcing the Gusties to five sets but Coe had just one kill in the final set as Gustavus pulled out the victory. Wheaton dominated in the second match, winning 25-21, 25-21 and 25-17 to hand Coe its first sweep of the season. The results move the Kohawks to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in their last four games.

Match Facts
  • Gustavus and Coe battled in the opening set but the Gusties managed a 25-23 victory thanks to a .250 hitting percentage.
  • The Kohawks bounced back, winning set two and three to regain control of the match. Coe was on fire in the third set, hitting .298 while racking up a match-high 19 kills.
  • The Gusties dominated the fourth and fifth sets as the Kohawks recorded nine errors in the frames. Gustavus posted hitting percentages of .225 and .846 in the final two frames, holding Coe to just two points in the decisive fifth set. 
  • Kate Tidman had a season-high 21 kills in the match, also adding one ace and 13 digs for her third double-double of the season. Madi Parson also recorded a double-double, posting 13 digs and 11 kills.

  • Wheaton was on top from the jump, winning the opening set 25-21 while attacking at a .268 clip. 
  • The Kohawks struggled offensively in the second set, hitting just .098 while the Thunder recorded 17 kills.
  • Wheaton had its most efficient set of the match in the third and final set, recording 11 kills while hitting .281. Coe, which hit just .105, recorded six errors in the frame.  
Up next: The Kohawks open American Rivers Conference play on Tuesday evening when they travel to Decorah for a matchup with Luther College at 7:30 p.m.
