ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Coe College volleyball team kicked off play at the Augustana Viking Classic on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Knox College. The squads played a tight set one as the Kohawks edged the Prairie Fire 25-21 but Coe dominated the final two sets, winning 25-10 and 25-9 to complete the sweep. The win is Coe's second straight as it improves to 6-4 overall while Knox falls to 3-5 on the year.

- Coe and Knox battled back and forth in the opening set with neither team pulling away until Coe ripped off a 6-3 spurt to grab a 16-12 advantage. The Kohawks extended their lead to 22-13 in the period before the Prairie Fire scored five straight points to cut the lead to four. Coe managed to slow the run, scoring to make it 23-18 which proved enough to secure the opening set.
- The Kohawks dominated the second set, hitting .259 while totaling seven kills and three blocks in the frame. During the set, Coe put together nine consecutive points, extending its lead from 15-7 to 23-7.
- Coach DeAnn Akins saw her team continue to dominate in the third set, knocking off the Prairie Fire 25-9 while attacking at an impressive .435 clip. The Kohawks, who had two more service aces in the set, also had an additional block to bring their total to five in the match.
- Kate Tidman led the team offensively, posting 10 kills while posting an attacking percentage of .269. Grace Lueken and Gracie Urbatsch also had solid offensive nights for the Kohawks, posting seven and six kills respectively as Lueken had a team-best .500 percentage (min. 5 att.).
Up next: Coe will return to the court tomorrow for a pair of non-conference matches against Lake Forest College (12 p.m.) and Augustana College (2 p.m.) in Rock Island, Illinois.
