Volleyball Secures 3-1 Victory over Carleton

WAVERLY, Iowa - The Coe College volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Carleton College on Saturday morning in its final match of the Wartburg Invitational. The Kohawks dropped the opening set to the Knights 25-19 but fought back to win three straight sets en route to their 11th win of the season. Coe was led by Madi Parson, who finished the match with 21 kills while Kate Tidman and Gracie Urbatsch also reached double figures. Elli Teeple finished with 46 assists and 12 digs while commanding the Kohawk's offensive attack. The victory moves the Kohawks to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the A-R-C while Carleton drops to 3-11 and 0-3 in the MIAC.

Match Facts
  • Carleton got off to a solid start in the match, hitting .314 in the opening set while registering 13 kills and just two errors. The Knights had two service aces and four total blocks in the frame while holding the Kohawks to .213 attack percentage.
  • Carleton and Coe battled back-and-forth in the second set, but the Kohawks managed to edge the Knights 29-27 thanks to two consecutive points which featured an important kill from Parson. 
  • The Kohawks dominated the third set, defeating the Knights 25-18 thanks to a .267 attack percentage and 13 kills. Carleton jumped out to a quick 6-3 lead but Coe scraped back to retake a one-point lead at 12-11. From that point, the Kohawks and Knights traded points until it was 17-16 Carleton but Coe scored eight straight en route to the third set victory. 
  • Coe opened a 6-1 lead in the fourth and final set, but Carleton refused to go away as the Knights scored nine of 12 points to tie the game at 14. The teams traded points back-and-forth for the remainder of the set but the Kohawks scored five-of-six points to end the set and secure the victory. 
Up next: Coe will return to the court on Wednesday, September 29 when it travels to Dubuque for an A-R-C matchup with UD at 7:30 p.m.
