Men’s Soccer Suffers 1-0 Defeat to Cornell

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cornell College on Wednesday evening at Clark Field. The two teams played a scoreless first half which featured few legitimate chances but an early goal in the second half gave the Rams enough to secure the victory over the Kohawks. The result drops Coe to 1-7-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the A-R-C while Cornell improves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the Midwest Conference.

Match Facts:
  • Cornell earned three early corner kicks, racking up three in the first two minutes but solid defending from Coe kept it scoreless. 
  • The Kohawks then earned three consecutive set pieces, receiving a corner in the fourth minute and two free-kicks in the sixth and eighth minutes but they were unable to create any scoring chances.
  • The Rams regained control of the match around the nine-minute mark, attempting three shots in a short period of time but the Kohawk defenders made two big blocks while one sailed high of the net as the game stayed tied at zero. 
  • Cornell broke the deadlock early in the second half, scoring in the 48th minute as Zach Miller tapped one past Maxwell Twight to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Kohawks would battle with the Rams for the remainder of the second half but they only registered two shots in the final half of play as Cornell saw out the victory. 
 
Up next: The team will return to American Rivers Conference play on Saturday, October 2 at Wartburg College at 3:30 PM.
