Women’s Soccer Drops Home Match to Saint Mary’s

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Saint Mary's University on Saturday afternoon at Clark Field. The Kohawks and Cardinals were scoreless late into the second half but a goal from the penalty spot in the 74th minute gave Saint Mary's the narrow victory. The loss is Coe's first of the season as the squad moves to 0-0-1 while Saint Mary's improves to 2-0 on the year.

  • Saint Mary's forced Kohawk keeper Alex Montalbano into four saves in the first half including two in the opening 18 minutes of action. 
  • The Kohawks first shot on target came in the 31st minute of the first half as Abby Saskowski forced the Cardinal keeper into a save. 
  • Montalbano came up big again for the Kohawks early in the second period, making saves in the 59th and 60th minutes to keep it scoreless. 
  • The Cardinals were awarded a penalty kick in the 74th minute of the contest after a handball by the Kohawks. Mikayla McCart managed to successfully convert the spot kick, beating Montalbano for the only time in the match. 
 
Up next: Coe will return to the pitch tomorrow afternoon for another non-conference match against Ripon College at 2 p.m. at Clark Field.
