CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Augustana on Wednesday evening in its 2021 home opener at Clark Field. The Kohawks and Vikings played a scoreless first half but Augustana took advantage of a defensive mistake by Coe to score the game's opening goal. Overall, the Kohawks had eight shots and five shots on target in the match while the Vikings finished with 17 shots and eight on frame. The loss drops Coe to 0-3 on the season while Augustana improves to 2-1 overall. 
 
Match Facts:

• The teams played a tightly contested first half but neither managed to take advantage of their scoring opportunities.
• The Kohawks recorded three shots in the opening half forcing three saves from the Viking keeper. 
• Maxwell Twight was also called into action in the opening half, making three saves in the period. 
• Sebastian Gabrielson, who tallied four shots in the first 45 minutes finally broke through for Augustana, taking advantage of Kohawk error to find himself one-on-one with the keeper. Gabrielson managed to beat Twight on the near post with a powerful strike to put the Vikings up 1-0.
• The Kohawks best chances of the game came in the 71st minute as Jay Ndayisenga and Matthew Joseph both had shot attempts hit the woodwork keeping Coe off the board. Joseph's try came from nearly 30-yards out and rang the upper right angle of the goal after beating the Viking keeper.  
• Augustana scored its second goal in the final two minutes of the game as Coe pressed forward to try to find an equalizer, leaving itself exposed at the back.  

Up next: Coe will return to the pitch on Wednesday evening when it hosts Augustana College at 7:00 p.m. at Clark Field.
