WAVERLY, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team dropped a road game to 13th-ranked Wartburg College on Wednesday evening, falling 80-53 to the Knights. The hosts jumped in front immediately with a strong first quarter and then slowly built upon their lead in the second and third quarter to see out the victory. With the loss, the Kohawks drop to 5-11 on the season and 2-5 in the A-R-C while the Knights improve to 11-2 and 5-1 in the league.
Coe was led by a pair of double-digit scorers in
Molly Buck and
Elle Walker as the pair scored 14 points each to lead the offense. Buck was 6-of-12 from the floor and chipped in with eight rebounds while Walker hit four of her eight long-distance tries.

- Coe scored the opening bucket of the game as Ellie Wisner got the visitors started early with a layup. Wartburg answered with a quick 3 on the other end but the Kohawks didn't flinch as Kaalyn Petersen drew a foul and converted a pair of free throws. Wartburg then ripped off a dominant 16-0 run over the next 4:49 of the period, racing out to a 19-4 lead. The Kohawks finally put an end to the run with 3:15 left in the quarter thanks to a bucket from Katie Wilhelmi. Wartburg scored four of the final five points of the quarter to stretch its lead to 16 before the end of the first.
- The Knights continued to score in the early portion of the second quarter, using an 11-3 spurt in the first three-plus minutes as the lead grew to 24 points. The Kohawks settled into the game despite the large deficit, getting an 11-8 run to end the quarter to cut the lead back to 21 before the break.
- Coe and Wartburg traded baskets to open the second half, but a small run got the visitors back with 19 points with 7:39 left in the quarter. The Knights then scored 15 of the next 18 points to regain control of the game with a 63-32 advantage. Coe bounced back before the end of the period, getting a 7-3 spurt including a 3 from Buck to cut the deficit to 66-39 with 10 minutes to play.
- The Kohawks opened the final quarter with a slight 9-6 advantage, showing no quit until the end of the contest. Wartburg would then hit back-to-back shots with less than five minutes to play as the hosts saw out the remainder of the contest.
Up next: Coe will have the weekend off before returning to conference action on Wednesday, January 19 when it hosts Nebraska Wesleyan University at Kohawk Arena. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 PM tip-off.
