CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team picked up an American Rivers Conference victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday evening, downing the visiting Prairie Wolves 76-60 at Kohawk Arena. Coe jumped out to an early lead in the game, outscoring NWU 23-7 in the first quarter. The Kohawks then managed the remainder of the game, keeping the Prairie Wolves in their rearview mirror for a majority of the game. A late run from the visitors put pressure on Coe with just over six minutes left in the period but the Kohawks saw out the remainder of the game to secure the victory. The result moves Coe to 6-11 on the season and 3-5 in the A-R-C while Nebraska Wesleyan drops to 2-13 overall and 0-7 in the league.
Four Kohawks reached double-figures in the victory as
Kaalyn Petersen and
Elle Walker each finished with 19 points. The duo, which recorded their career-highs in the game, combined to shoot 12-of-20 from the floor and 11-of-16 from the floor while Walker was 3-of-5 from deep.
Ellie Wisner and
Molly Buck also reached double-digits for Coe, scoring 15 and 14 points respectively. Buck was 5-of-10 shooting, connecting on two of her five long-distance attempts. Overall, the Kohawks shot 47.1 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from downtown while holding the Prairie Wolves to 29.8 percent shooting overall.

- NWU opened the scoring in the first quarter, getting a jumper from Anna Vandenack to get in front. Coe dominated the next three-plus minutes of action, shutting out the visitors while scoring 12 points to race out to the double-digit lead. During the stretch, Coe hit a pair of 3s as Buck and Walker converted long-distance attempts for the Kohawks. The Prairie Wolves ended their scoreless run with just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter but Coe continued to dominate, scoring 11 of the final 14 points in the period to lead 23-7.
- Nebraska Wesleyan came to life in the second quarter, using an 11-3 outburst in the first four minutes of the period to slice Coe's lead to eight. The Prairie Wolves cut further into the lead after back-to-back buckets made it 28-22 but the Kohawks had a strong ending to the period, outscoring NWU 12-1 before the half. Coe, which led 40-23 after 20 minutes, hit a pair of 3s during the run as Wisner and Walker knocked down two long balls.
- The visitors had a strong start to the second half, scoring five of the first seven points to get within 14 points of the lead. The Kohawks and Prairie Wolves battled over the next 2:31 of the period, trading buckets during the stretch. Coe maintained its double-digit lead for the remainder of the third quarter thanks to some solid shooting as the hosts went 3-of-5 from the floor over the final five-plus minutes.
- The Prairie Wolves slowly chipped away at the Kohawk lead early in the fourth quarter, using an 8-3 run to cut the lead to single-digits with 6:34 left to play. Coe showed poise following the run, scoring three-straight points to extend the lead back to 11 with 3:17 remaining. Nebraska Wesleyan continued to scrap over the final moments of the quarter but the Kohawks handled the pressure to secure the victory.
Up next: Coe will hit the road this weekend for another A-R-C matchup as it travels to Indianola for a matchup with league-leaders Simpson.
