CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The #20 Coe College Volleyball team swept Dubuque 3-0 on Wednesday evening, completing its undefeated run through the American Rivers Conference en route to the regular season title. Coe, which is earning the championship for the first time since 2014, dominated the match with its defense, holding the Spartans to just a .078 attack percentage. Coe jumped ahead in the match with a 25-22 victory in the opener before clawing back from a six-point deficit for a 25-19 win in the second. The Kohawks clinched the league title with a convincing 25-12 decision in the final period, locking up the undefeated record in A-R-C action.
Grace Lueken finished with a team-high nine kills, while
Madi Parson was second with eight.
Maggie Furlong and
Kate Tidman also added seven kills for the Kohawks while freshman specialists
Maddy Maahs and
Ella Koloc added 31 assists and 17 digs. The win moves Coe to 21-5 overall and 8-0 in the A-R-C while Dubuque falls to 10-16 and 4-4 in league play.

- Coe and Dubuque went back and forth to start the first set but the hosts scored five-straight points to take its first significant lead at 12-7. The Spartans saw Coe quickly extend its lead out of a timeout, taking a 14-7 advantage but the visitors answered back and sliced the lead to four at 16-12. Coe called a timeout of its own and responded, ripping off a 6-3 spurt to regain momentum in the frame. The Spartans again called time and clawed their way back into the match, cutting the deficit to three but Coe hung on for a 25-22 set one victory.
- UD was on fire in the early moments of the second, ripping off a 6-1 stretch to begin the frame. The Kohawks attempted to slow the run with a timeout but the Spartan advantage grew to 11-4 following the break. Coe again put a pause to the action and this time responded, cutting the Dubuque lead to just two points with a 7-2 run. The Kohawks stayed hot after a UD timeout, completing the comeback to take a 19-16 lead. The visitors tried to slow the momentum with another timeout but Coe showed no signs of slowing down, scoring six of the final nine points to take a 2-0 lead.
- Coe didn't let up in the third and final set, attacking at a .229 clip while holding Dubuque to just two kills. The Kohawks started with seven-straight points and quickly extended the lead to 12-1, forcing a timeout from Dubuque. The Spartans did their best to hang in the set but Coe's lead proved far too large to overcome. UD cut the deficit to nine at 21-12, forcing a timeout from DeAnn Akins, but her team responded from the break and finished with four-straight points.
Up next: The Kohawks will complete the regular season this weekend at the Wisconsin Lutheran's Warrior Invitational, taking on MSOE, Benedictine, Wisconsin Lutheran and Elmhurst on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29.
