CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - 12 Coe College football players were named to All-American Rivers Conference teams on Friday afternoon in the league's major football award release. Six Kohawks were named first team all-league including three from offense and three from defense.
Jack Shaw, Alex Aithcison and
Jay Oostendorp were named first-team defense while
Noah Theriault, Ray Seidel and
Dominic Shepardson received first-team offense honors. The Kohawks picked up three second team nod as well as three honorable mention recognitions, marking the first time since 2016 that Coe has earned at least 12 all-conference selections.
LaDainian Linnear and
Ben Ridenour represented the defense on the second team while
Cooper Zeck was named a second-team offensive performer.
Joe Barreras,
Carter Maske and
Luke Schumacher rounded out the honors for Coe, each earning a place on the honorable mention squad. Wartburg swept the major awards, taking home the offensive and defensive player of the year awards and coach of the year honors.
Jack Shaw - First Team - Defensive Back
A senior from Atkins, Shaw is picking up the first all-conference honor of his career after serving as a staple in the Kohawk secondary. Before moving to corner back late in the season due to injury, Shaw served as a safety for one of the top defenses in the nation. Shaw racked up 48 tackles during the season, including 39 solo stops. He was tied for third in the A-R-C with four interceptions, picking off passes in three-straight games against Loras, Central and Nebraska Wesleyan. Shaw also totaled six pass break ups on the season and added three tackles for loss to round out his excellent campaign.
Alex Aitchsion - First Team - Defensive Line &
Aitchison is earning his second-straight first-team all-conference honor. The junior from Cascade put together another impressive season which saw him lead the A-R-C in both tackles for loss and sacks. Aitchison totaled 19.0 tackles for loss and 12 total sacks, recording 115 total negative yards on the plays. Alex also forced four fumbles during the season and recovered two while registering four quarterback hurries and one pass breakup. Aitchison's name is present throughout the current DIII national leaders, ranking four in the NCAA in forced fumbles, sixth in sacks and 15th in tackles for loss.
Jay Oostendorp - First Team - Linebacker
Oostendorp, a junior from Cedar Rapids, is earning the first all-conference honor of his Kohawk career. A defensive stalwart for Coe, Oostendorp led the team in total tackles and ranked near the top in tackles for loss, pass break ups and quarterback hurries. Jay totaled 53 stops during the season including 39 solo tackles. He racked up 16 tackles for loss, second in the A-R-C and recorded 6.5 sacks to finish second on the team. Oostendorp, who totaled 78 negative yards on his tackles for loss, added four pass breakups, two quarterback hurries, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick.
Noah Theriault - First Team - Offensive Line
Theriault, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, is earning the first all-conference honor of his career. In his first season as a full-time starter, Theriault played in every game for the Kohawks. He was a key factor in the Kohawk offense allowing just seven sacks against, which was the top mark in the league. Theriault was also instrumental in leading the offense which racked up just under 4,000 yards of total offense including 1,749 yards on the ground.
Ray Seidel - First Team - Running Back
Seidel is earning the first all-conference honor of his career after serving as Coe's starting running back in eight of the 10 games in 2022. The junior from Cedar Falls totaled 636 yards during the season and hit pay dirt 12 times, which was second-best in the league. Seidel carried the ball 168 total times and had a long rush of 21 yards while averaging 79.5 yards per game while battling injury throughout the season. His touchdown total moves him into the top-20 for a single season in Coe's history and his three-touchdown performance against Central moves him into the top-five for single game totals. Seidel also added 10 receptions for 95 yards, eclipsing the 700-all-purpose yard total for the season.
Dominic Shepardson - First Team - Wide Receiver @
Shepardson, a senior from Phoenix, is earning his second-staight all-conference nod while making his first appearance on the first team. Dom had a record-breaking season for the Kohawks, setting a new single-season record with 79 catches, breaking the old mark of 73 set in 2017. Shepardson also set the new record for catches per game, hauling in 7.9 receptions per contest. He caught a team-high eight touchdown passes, ranking fifth all-time in the single-season record books. Shepardson had a dominant stretch to end the season, recording either 100 yards or a touchdown in the final seven games of the season. He posted a career-high 143 yards in Coe's upset win over Central and added one touchdown reception.
LaDainian Linnear - Second Team - Defensive Back
Linnear, a sophomore from Chicago, is earning the first all-conference honor of his career. Despite suffering a season-ending injury late in the campaign, Linnear made a major impact on the Kohawk defense as a cornerback while making his presence felt on special teams as a kick returner. On defense, Linnear made 31 total tackles, including 21 solo stops. He added a trio of tackles for loss, forcing a loss of eight yards with the stops. He was second on the team with five pass break ups and added one interception, picking off a pass against the Dutch prior to his injury. He was Coe's main return man throughout the year and totaled 223 yards on 10 returns, returning one kick for a 94-yard score against Simpson.
Ben Ridenour - Second Team - Linebacker
Ridenour, a senior from Manchester, is earning the first all-conference honor of his career after an every-down role in Coe's linebacking corp. The West Delaware product was fourth on the team in tackles, totaling 47 stops including 27 solos. Ben also put up 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack, forcing a total of 16 negative yards on the plays. Ridenour also added a pair of pass break ups and one interception, coming up with his lone pick against Luther.
Cooper Zeck - Second Team - Tight End
Zeck is earning the first all-conference honor of his Kohawk career after serving as Coe's every down tight end in 2022. The senior from Muscatine made an impact in the pass game and running game, serving as a dependable receiver and an important run blocker. Zeck totaled 11 catches for 188 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver, catching a pass in six of Coe's 10 games. Two of Zeck's three touchdowns came in A-R-C games, hauling in touchdowns against Luther and Loras to help Coe to a pair of victories.
Joe Barreras - Honorable Mention - Offensive Line
Barreras, a true do-it-all player, is earning the first all-conference honor of his career after a season a crucial member of the Kohawk offensive line. The Albuquerque native made a position switch during summer camp from tight end to offensive line and made an impact in all 10 games. Joe, a senior, helped Coe allow just seven sacks on the season, the leading number in the A-R-C. Barerras and his offensive line mates also helped the Kohawk offense eclipse the 3,000 yard mark, rushing for 1,749 and passing for 2,335.
Carter Maske - Honorable Mention - Quarterback
Maske, who stepped into the starters role against Simpson, is earning the first all-conference honor of his career. Carter, a junior from Waterloo, helped Coe to a 5-2 record in the games he started. The Waterloo West product totaled 1,700 yards on the season and 17 touchdowns, finishing with a completion percentage of 56.3. Maske ended the season on a torrid stretch, throwing for either 300 yards or three touchdowns in three of the final four games of the year. Maske's best performance came against Loras, tossing for a career-high 372 yards and three scores.
Luke Schumacher - Honorable Mention - Offensive Line
Schumacher, a freshman from Waukee, is one of just four freshman to earn all-conference honors across the league. A Northwest high school product, Schumacher made an instant impact in his first season in Crimson and Gold. Schumacher was a mainstay on the offensive line which allowed just seven sacks while helping the offense total nearly 4,000 yards of offense.
