CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team shot a season-best 50.8 percent from the floor and cruised to a 73-57 victory over Bethany Lutheran at Kohawk Arena on Tuesday afternoon. The Kohawks, who extended their winning streak to five, outscored their opponent in the first three quarters before taking their foot off the gas in the fourth. Coe had its best quarter just before the halftime break, outscoring Bethany Lutheran 24-13 to grab a 15-point lead with two periods to play. The hosts continued to dominate the game following the half, pushing the lead to 24 points just over halfway through the frame. Coe slowed down the pressure at this point, utilizing the game clock while maintaining a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game. Freshman
Caydee Kirkham had a game-high 23 points, shooting 10-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Kaalyn Petersen and
Meagan Harvey each scored 12 points for the Kohawks, finishing second on the team in points.
Molly Buck stuffed the stat sheet for Coe, posting six points, six boards, four assists and one steal in 24 minutes of game action. The win moves the Kohawks to 9-3 on the season while the Vikings drop to 3-8 overall.

COE 73 - BETHANY LUTHERAN 57
- Coe opened the game with four unanswered points, getting layups from Buck and Petersen before the visitors got on the board. Bethany Lutheran tallied its first points at the 8:28 mark and quickly tied the game, getting four-straight points before the six-minute mark. The Kohawks took early control during the next two minutes, getting a 7-0 run to stretch their lead to 11-4. Bethany Lutheran fought back and stayed within striking distance of Coe, ripping off a 9-4 run to slice the deficit to just two. The hosts quickly extended the lead back to six with just 18 seconds left in the period but a layup from the Vikings cut the score to 19-15 after 10 minutes.
- Maya Lindgren opened the scoring in the second quarter, pushing Coe's lead to seven with a corner 3 just over a minute in. The Kohawk offense continued to churn, outscoring the Vikings 8-4 over the next four-plus minutes to grab a 30-21 advantage. Coe's run lasted for the remainder of the second quarter, edging Bethany Lutheran 13-7 in the final 3:35. Coe got six points from Harvey during the run while Kirkham added a 3 to give her nine first-half points.
- The teams traded buckets in the early moments of the third quarter but Coe scored eight unanswered points to extend the gap to 25 points. Bethany Lutheran continued to fight despite the large deficit, ending the quarter with a strong 10-5 spurt to close the gap to 19 points. Coe put the game away for good in the first few minutes of the fourth, getting a 7-2 run to regain a 24-point lead which was far too much for the visitors to overcome.
Up next: The Kohawks take a break for the Holiday and return to action one final time in 2022, hosting Elmhurst University on January 30 at 1 PM.
