Game Facts
  • The Kohawks put the Knights in trouble right from the jump, getting a two-out single from TJ Johnson, who stole second to move into scoring position but a strikeout ended the threat. Coe opened the scoring in the top of the second, getting two runs after taking advantage of a pair of Wartburg errors. Creighton Kreshel scored the opening run on an error by the shortstop prior to Tyler Elliott scoring on a balk with two outs in the inning. Coe got another run in the top of the third inning thanks to an RBI single from Kreshel who drove in TJ Deardorff after a two-out walk.
  • Wartburg answered back in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run on two hits but Jack Allison came in for Coe with runners on the corners and got a strikeout to limit the damage for the visitors. The game went scoreless over the next few innings despite some threatening situations for Wartburg as Coe continued to lead 3-1 after six.
  • The next insurance run came for the Kohawks in the top of the seventh on Reid Rausch's first homer of the season, a solo blast to left-center. Coe added four more in the top of the eighth to seal the game, recording three hits in the frame while capitalizing on two more errors. Tyce Johnson and Elliott reached to start the inning and quickly moved to second and third on a passed ball. The Knights put a hold on the threat, getting back-to-back outs but a two-RBI single from Jacob Brosius allowed the leadoff runners to score, clearing the bases. The final two runs of the game came on another error as Rausch reached on a play by the third basemen while Brosius and TJ Johnson made it 8-1.
  • The Kohawk pitching shut the Knights down in the bottom of the eighth inning before a scoreless top of the ninth left the hosts with just three outs remaining. Coe got back-to-back strikeouts to put the pressure on Wartburg prior to a walk and two-run homer but the Kohawks ended the game on a groundout to third and locked up the series win.
Up next: Coe continues its busy week of A-R-C action with another road doubleheader at Dubuque tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 1 PM.
