INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team suffered a 5-1 defeat to Simpson on Saturday in its 2022 American Rivers Conference opener. The Kohawks fell behind in the opening half just over 15 minutes in, surrendering a penalty that the Storm converted for a 1-0 advantage. Neither team found the back of the net again in the opening half but Simpson tacked on four goals in the second half to cruise to the victory. Coe's lone goal of the match came off the boot of
Ian Kearney who finished at the back post to make it 3-1. The loss drops Coe to 1-7-1 overall and 0-1 in the A-R-C while Simpson improves to 7-2 on the year and 1-0 in the league.

- Simpson had a solid start to the match, registering a handful of shots in the opening minutes of action. The lone goal of the opening half came in the 16th minute when Simpson was awarded a penalty which the hosts took advantage of to grab the lead. Coe had a trio of shots before the end of the period but Simpson stood tall and kept the visitors off the board.
- The Storm added two insurance goals quickly in the second half, getting a tally in the 50th and 57th minute to make it 3-0. Coe kept up the intensity despite the deficit, getting its only goal of the match just two minutes later as Kearney scored his third of the season after a nice ball from Carter Collis. Simpson took advantage of Coe's high press before the end of the match, scoring two more times as the Kohawks had committed bodies forward.
