CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's soccer team scored its first goal of the season on Wednesday evening but came up short against Cornell, falling 2-1 in the Bremner Cup match. The Rams scored two goals in the first half, once in the 34th and once just before the end of the first period in the 43rd minute. Coe battled back back in the second half, creating a few early scoring chances but the visitors maintained the clean sheet for a majority of the frame. The Kohwaks scored their lone goal of the contest in the 89th minute on a free kick from
Carley Balachio from just inside the attacking zone. Coe continued to press during the final moments of the game but a corner kick with 40 seconds to play sailed into the keepers' arms. The loss drops Coe to 0-3-0 on the season while Cornell registers its first win and improves to 1-2 overall.

- The first few minutes of the opening half were fiercely contested, with both teams registering shots inside the initial 10 minutes. Liana Sweezer was forced into an early save in the third minute as the Rams had a chance from outside the box but Sweezer dove and made the stop to keep it scoreless. The visitors started the scoring in the 34th minute of the period, scoring the opener after a through ball put Elissafe Moreno in on goal. The second goal of the frame came just before the halftime whistle as the Rams converted on a lengthy set piece attempt, scoring from the dead ball situation.
- Coe brought energy to the second half, earning a free kick and a corner kick in the opening five minutes of play. The Kohawks' first chance of the half came during the stretch when Brianna Ellsworth's free-kick attempt was saved onto the crossbar by the Cornell keeper. Ella Weber registered another shot on target for Coe, slicing through a handful of Ram defenders before her shot attempt was saved. The Kohawks scored their first goal of the campaign in the waning seconds of the game as Balachio blasted a set piece from just inside the midway line, beating the Cornell keeper who was slightly off her line. Coe earned a late corner kick with just over 40 seconds to play but the ball was too close to the goalie and ended the late comeback chance.
