Four Players Reach Double Figures as Women’s Basketball Extends Streak to Seven at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team pushed its winning streak to seven games on Wednesday evening, defeating Dubuque 77-64 in the team's first game of 2023. The Kohawks led for over 37 minutes in the game and handled Dubuque throughout for its third A-R-C win of the season. Coe opened with a slight 18-16 advantage in the opening 10 minutes before dominating the second quarter, outscoring the Spartans 24-11 to hold a 42-27 lead at the half. Dubuque fought back in the third period, edging Coe 18-15 to close the gap to 12 points with 10 minutes to play. The Spartans continued to fight back in the fourth quarter, getting within nine points with 5:26 remaining but the Kohawks saw out the remainder of the contest with some solid defense and clutch 3s. Four Kohawks hit the double-figure scoring mark as Caydee Kirkham, Kaalyn Petersen, Molly Buck and Alyse Southard all achieved the feat. Kirkahm's excellent freshman season continued as she scored a team and game-high 20 points while falling one assist shy of a double-double. Petersen was ultra efficient on offense, going 9-of-11 from the field for 18 total points and eight rebounds. Buck and Southard each scored 11 points for Coe, knocking down three 3s each while Buck added four dimes. As a team, Coe had a season-high 27 assists and shot a season-best 68.1 percent from the floor. The victory moves Coe to 11-3 on the year and 3-2 in the league while Dubuque drops to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the A-R-C.
