Women’s Basketball Wins Eighth Straight with Strong Defensive Effort Against Buena Vista

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team won its eighth-straight game on Saturday afternoon at Kohawk Arena, defeating Buena Vista 61-55. The Kohawks were tested by the Beavers throughout the contest, holding a slim lead for a majority of the contest despite the opponents' best effort. Coe started the game well, outscoring Buena Vista 20-17 in the first quarter and 10-8 in the second to build a five-point lead at the break. The visitors came out of the half strong, edging Coe 14-5 in the period to put pressure on the Kohawks, who trailed 39-35 entering the fourth. The Kohawks dominated the final quarter of the contest, scoring a game-high 26 points in the period while holding the Beavers to just 16. Freshman guard Caydee Kirkham dominated the period for Coe, scoring 12 points to help lift her team to victory. Kirkham also finished as the game leader in points, scoring 16 while adding six assists, four rebounds and one steal. Kaalyn Petersen registered her fifth double-double of the season, posting 11 points and 12 boards, three of which came on the offensive glass. The win extends the streak to eight and moves Coe to 12-3 overall and 4-2 in the A-R-C while BVU falls to 6-8 on the year and 1-5 in the league.
